If you want to start your internet business with no out of pocket cost, the easiest way to do that is to start off with a free Blogger blog. They are extremely easy to set up, and easy to integrate into adsense, feedburner, and other applications/sites. Even Amazon has a widget that works with them. Earning online has never been easier.
Before reading further, you should read my earlier post on Keyword Research for Adsense Blogging (if you haven’t already). Without the proper keyword research, your internet business efforts are going to fall a little flat. If you are going to make any money blogging, learning to choose the right keywords is essential.
If you are choosing this method to get started with your new internet business, there is one thing that you should keep in mind. This is designed to get you started making money online for free. The point here is to get you making a little money, so you can reinvest some of your monthly income into website domains and hosting. Hosting your own WordPress blog gives you way more options, and we will go into that in a separate article.
Okay, so are we ready to get started? The first step is to create an account with Google, and set up a profile. You will use your google account for your adsense, webmaster tools, Blogger blog, feedburner, etc.
Next, you want to go to www.blogger.com. If you are already signed in to Google, you should be taken right to your dashboard. If not, Blogger will ask you to sign in with your Google account. From your dashboard, you should find a link that says “Create a blog”. Click that link and we are off to the races.
Do you remember the spreadsheet that you made with the “green” keywords? You should have a separate spreadsheet for each keyword idea. Either that, or you can have them all in the same file, but on different pages. The point is that I want you to organize them by keyword idea. To use the example from the last lesson, you would have a sheet with all the keywords relating to your “horseback riding” search, a separate one for your “auto racing” search, etc.
Find the keyword idea that has the most green keywords for your first blog. Now take the keyword on that list with the highest earnings potential. That will be your new site’s main keyword. All of the other green keywords on that list will be your cousin keywords. In theory, these cousins should be easier to rank for, so they will help you to get traffic while you are building your authority for your main keyword.
When you create a new blog with Blogger, you will be asked to name the blog. You should use your main keyword as the blog name. If your main keyword is “how to get rich”, you should make that the name of your site. Your URL should read: howtogetrich.blogspot.com. If your exact keyword is not available, you should add something to the front or back of your name like: yourhowtogetrich or howtogetrichnow. Never break up your keyword phrase, or substitute words. “How2getrich” or “howyougetrich” or even “howtogetreallyrich” are all bad. Add something to the beginning or the end – never in the middle.
Once you are done, you will have the option of selecting a template. It is easiest if you choose minima for now. You can tweak the look later. On the next screen, just click “Start Blogging”, and you will have your first blog!
Next, before you post anything, we need to change a couple of settings. Click the settings tab and you will find yourself on the basics page. Go ahead and enter a description for your site. Keep it fairly brief, and make sure your main keyword is toward the beginning of the description. It is not a bad idea to include one of your biggest cousin keywords as well. Make it read well, because this is what people will see in the search results for your home page. Make it interesting.
Next, make sure “Add your blog to our listings?” and “Let search engines find your blog?” are both set to “Yes”. Now go to the “Formatting” page and change “Show at most” from 7 posts to 1. Finally, go over to the “site feed” page. Click the link that will take you to feedburner. You should be already logged in via, Google. If not, just fill in your Google account login and your set. Follow the directions on feedburner to burn your feed. Go back to Blogger and enter your new feedburner URL in the box that says “Post Feed Redirect URL”.
When all of that is done, go to the “monetize” tab. On the “set up adsense” page, go with the default and click next. Do the same thing for your adsense for feeds. Once you have your adsense set up, you will start getting paid every time someone goes to your blog and clicks an ad. All we have to do now is get visitors to your site.
One more thing you will need before you get too far is a privacy policy. Google requires that you have a privacy policy to be in compliance with their Adsense TOS. You can view my privacy policy HERE. Feel free to copy it and change the contact info if you want.
Now you are ready for your first post! The title of this post should contain your main site keyword. The post should be fairly short (200 words or so is fine) and contain your keyword twice. I recommend once in the very first sentence and a second time in the middle or towards the end. You will also find a box for you to enter labels. These are like tags and they show up as keywords in your meta tags. Enter your main keyword as a label and maybe one other phrase that appears in your article that is related to your main keyword.
You now have your first blog with your first post! You’re on your way to earning online with your very own internet business. There is still much work to do yet, but we will get to that in future articles. Happy blogging!
