Keyword Research Basics

Regardless of the method that you use to set up your internet business, there is one factor that needs to be considered above all others: you need traffic. Whether you are doing affiliate marketing, adsense blogging, selling your own goods or services, or whatever, you need visitors to your website. There are many ways to get them there, but we will be focusing on what’s called “organic search engine traffic”.

Organic search engine traffic is someone who went to Google (or one of the other search engines), typed in a search query, and found your website in the (non sponsored) results. This is arguably the best way to get visitors to your website that are interested in what you have to say/sell/promote. That makes them the most likely to click on an advertisement, or purchase a product from you.

That all sounds great, but if you have ever tried to get a website on the first page of Google’s results for a given keyword, you likely already know that it is not as easy as it might sound. Quite often, you are competing with hundreds of thousands, if not millions of websites that are showing up for just about anything that you query. This is where keyword research comes in.

This website will focus on two types of keyword research:

Adsense Blogging Keywords

These are keywords that can generate huge numbers of visitors to your site, a percentage of which will click on the adsense adds on your site. You earn a small commission for each person that clicks these ads.

Affiliate Site Keywords

These keywords will generate far fewer visitors to your website, but the affiliate commissions are much higher than adsense.

A strong internet business will want to incorporate both of these strategies, and in later articles, I will explain how. For now, I will suffice it to say that, unless you already have a product that you are trying to sell, I would start off with adsense blogging. This will teach you how to create a website that can build authority in a niche, and will later pass that authority down to your affiliate pre-sales page.
